I have a 125 gallon aquarium with 2 red eared sliders. Would a single Fluval Fx6 or an Eheim 2217+Aquatop Cf-500 provide more filtration?

Fluval fx-6 would be a great option. I haven't had good luck with aquatop canister filters.
I agree with Wailua Boy. I recommend at least 20% water changes every week. But it also depends on how big your RES are. Considering they could be 1 inch to 20 inches in diameter.

i'd go with something rated up to 250 gallons and 50-80% WCs weekly........the problem w/ turtles is always the scutes that get shed

a single fx6 filled with bio is enough. key for turtles are
daily water changes because of their large bio load and
scute shed. doesnt have to be a large water change just
siphon the bio load and scutes out and top back off.

I have a 15" shell snapper( the one in my profile pic) in a 150 gallon with a FX-5 and it works great.

(P.S yes he is that color)
