Turtle ID please

Wow... what happened to it? It look terribly deformed... did you give it sunlight and calcium? Not healthy at all..

It's kept in the balcony and is exposed to direct sunlight, feeds on turtle pellets, market shrimp & krills. ;)

Well it's still not healthy. This just shows the hardiness of turtles. You're turtle has masses of pyramidding, which probably stemmed from the high protein diet you are feeding him.

From the nose of the turtle (the rest seems to be too deformed to ID) I'm guessing Malaysian Box Turtle.

''Malaysian box turtles are omnivorous. Various mixed greens, fruits in limited quantities, mushrooms, crickets, and wax worms can be fed to this species.''

wow. Can it move around. Thats one of the worst cases I've seen for a long time.

Direct sunlight as in: no glass between turtle and sun?

Yeah, like Paul said, at one time it was probably a Malaysian box, but now its a pumpkin turtle! Seriously, it needs a diet change, starting 5 years ago.

I feel sorry for the turtle, however considering the circumstance, I am surprised it lasted for so long.

Anyway it is hard to tell what kind of turtle when there is not a whole lot of thing to ID by.

Man... going to be a long road to recovery... if it is possible.

All I can say is "Wow". And I'm pretty sure as well that it is a Malaysian Box Turtle. You do know they are semi-aquatic too? They also are a rainforest turtle and need high humidity.

I keep a pair of these guys, Cuora amboinensis, and they are best house as aquatics with a large basking/haul out area. If you can afford the space a 3:1 water to land setup would be ideal. Normally they are great swimmers but under the circumstances I would do more than a wading pool of about 4-6 in (10-15 cm).
Diet can sometimes be tricky to change right away as the high protein stuff is addicting to turtles and you may need to slowly wean it off its current feed. Some pellets that worth checking out are Reptomin, Mazuri, Nasco Turtle Brittle. There are others but these are the main ones available in the US.
