turtle in a native tank expierence?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have had redeared slides with fish which had its ups and it's down. They use to nip the tails of the fish all the time, and try to eat the smaller ones. The only fish that did ok was my Oscar as he was much bigger than the turtles.

shenanigans, thank you for the insight, I hadn't thought of that but now realize its a viable circumstance that could easily become a problem. yombrian; the website is turtleman.com. its not a zoo nor is it irresponsible to use the advertised buy back program. it is a farm the breeds the turtles and I can only assume the bigger take-ins they receive will be used to continue the breeding that goes on there. the inhabitants of this tank would be primarily food, its not a community show tank im planning.

as for my current set up I started with 12 piranhas I got when they were the size of a quarter. they have been sold to private parties, I have lost some to aggression, and just lost two of my last three during a broken heater fiasco. the cichlids had a small spawn, all but one of which have been picked off as did the male of the tank. they were always intended to be eaten, which is why I had a breeding pair in a piranha tank.

if 5 fish, all but one not making the 3" mark in a 150 gallon tank is a "community" to you, your an idiot. I don't know how else to say it but that's "wtf" is with my single piranha

musk /mudd turtles i highly recommend with fish that are small and fast or large and not bite sized. they arent strong swimmers though so you need ot build the tank around them and not the fish and know there is a chance a fish could get popped. you will have a great success rate with those guys though.

I have turtles (4) and fish (various), but in different tanks.
Turtles need a lot more maintenance. (Mine is automated for water changes.)
The only fish I have in with the turtles are minnows. (They eat turtle food that drops down.)
I once put a 6" largemouth bass in the turtle tank, and had to rescue it seconds later as the turtles thought it was dinner.
