Turtle/mbuna

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Their quoted at 5 inches but they have a large neck, I have them in each of my discus tanks and they do not take fish, including the ottos that are stuck on the glass or even my amano shrimp but then I hand feed my turtles to ensure they are well fed. In regards to basking lamps there is some argument whether they are necessary but I have turnt mine off as most of mine don't even come out the water

What about uvb light? And yea I feel like any fish that gets taken is probably weak or sick, mbuba are quick and active so they should be fine as well as the turtle.

Mine don't have any UVB lighting but they have done but they never used it as they never bask, I have RES and they behave completely differently basking 60% of the time. I would recommend a turtle they are fantastic with fish as they add a different dimension. In my tanks I have rays, discus turtles on their own but the thing visitors are obsessed with is the musk turtles foraging alongside my corydoras!

very cool, how do you feed the turtle with the fish in the tank? i feel like it would be difficult to feed them if you had mbunas swimming around. also what about water hardness? i read they like soft water, would hard water have a negative effect on a turtle?

I'm not too hot on the water hardness issue I'm afraid as mine is kept in a soft water tank but as they are captive bred it shouldn't be a massive issue, in regards to feeding it varies from turtle to turtle but I give mine frozen bloodworms held down with reptile feeding tongs and there is no issue

I've kept turtles with fish before but there is always that chance all turtles are different my paint turtles always tried to get frisky with my fish. A lot of filtration is a must

I have two Razorback musk and a pink belly sideneck in my 150, along with several sa fish. They get along very well and have never had any of these turtles even chase a fish. In fact my 2 severums follow the side neck around the tank like dogs. I had a painted turtle that I had to remove because it was constantly chasing my silver dollars.

The red ear has been doing good so far with the mbuna, when I first added him the all flocked together like what the hell is that lol but no aggression.
