good to know. I have a 48" double flourescent fixture above the tank. We'll see how it does, it was cheap so I'm not too worried about it. I'll check for more durable (and turtle-friendly) plants

That's a good amount of light so who knows, it might do better for you than it did for me. Every summer my neighbor gives me clippings off of hyacinths that he keeps in his goldfish pond. They usually last a week before the tips of the leaves start turning brown. I've found that water lettuce is much hardier but it's downside is that it must taste better, lol! Anacharis is another good choice but I think I recall you saying that you can't keep it in your state (?). Water Hygro is another good plant to use if you can obtain it.
