So I have a 50 gallon clear plastic tub laying around and I thought if it was possible to convert this to a turtle tank? What filteration system would I need? And what is the best beginner turtle species? Thanks!

the best filtration would probably be a large canister filter.
and for the size tank you have musk turtles would probably be best

I agree. You could also look at Mud Turtles. Possibly male a male Map Turtle of one of the smaller species like a Texas.

I really like the texas map turtles and mud turtles! What canister filteration system do you reccomend?Whats the best basking temps for one of the two species I listed?

There are a few good working canister filters out there. The only 2 brands I have had are Rena and Penn Plax Cascades. I'm sure some other people on here can tell you what works for them. You could also make a homemade sump.

I recommend reading some care sheets before really getting in too deep. This site has some well made ones, check it out:

Wow!Thanks alot!I found it interesting on how snapper can survive in salt and brackish and how diamondback terrapins can be housed in brackish too!

Didn't know that about the snappers.

Diamondbacks? Of course! They are from the Chesapeake Bay, which is Brackish. I didn't know that they couldn't be housed in Brackish...

I've personally seen Common Snappers in the brackish section of the Chesapeake. But I doubt they could live for long in SW.

And if captive bred DBT are grown up in freshwater then they don't have to be kept in brackish. You just have to watch for fungus and keep the water very clean.

This is all cool!Say,what about loggerhead musk turtles or big head turtles?would any of those fit? Thanks

Loggerhead Musks are great beginner turtles as well. I'd avoid Big Head Turtles, they're for more advanced keepers.
