Yeah they are but they get way too big for a 50 gallon. One question, is this tank for the life of the turtle or would you consider an upgrade in the future?

How deep do you reccomend for these guys?I wanted to kind of do a drop off with these guys, like build a cliff out of rocks and then the rest is water.would that work? And if youre asking me about the growout,I was also comtemplating on using one as that too. What turtles could grow out in this?

That size tub is fine for a loggerhead musk for life. Instead of a cliff I would make it a gradual slope so they can just walk up it to reach the surface. They enjoy being able to rest in shallow water where they can easily reach the surface to breath. Keep the tank pretty shallow for babies, maybe a 1/2 a foot deep and then you can go deeper as an adult.

Ditto:D Defenetly avoid big heads. They are amazing but they are also endangered, very expensive and have really especific needs that cant be meet with a normal tank like yours.

Alright!I bought a penn plax filter, got it up and running(the tank has been filled up).I know it's gonna be a turtle tank now!Should I have gravel as the substrate,or this product called "riverbed sand"?

Dont forget the ligthning, the heater and the deco like logs, basking area and some natural or artificial plants to make your turt feel at home:D

Oh yeah,I mean the tank ISNT filled up!I have the lighting :) should I put the lighting on the slope?I was also planning on adding a log for basking instead.Would that work?Is any standard fish tank heater fine,or do I need a specific one?And would It shred real plants?

Also,is there like, any fish that I could put in there?Like cheap ones, but good foragers.Like goldfish or rosy reds?

Sounds good! As for substrate, as nice as it looks it's a PAIN to clean. I just stick with bare bottom tanks. They're much easier to clean and if you use stones they can trap in a lot of waste. If you want something you can place some pieces of slate along the bottom. I would avoid sand as it's the hardest to keep clean not to mention it can screw up the motor to your canister filter.

Whatever you use for a basking site, make sure it holds a temperature around 85 degrees. Most musk turtles don't bask but young ones do on occassion. Even if they don't use it I still like to give my musk turtles access to one just in case.

Most turtles and fish do not mix. You could try something cheap and replacable like rosy reds and see how they do but most likely they'll be dinner. I've had luck keeping a pleco with my musk turtles but like I said, it's been all "luck".
