According to the good people that have replied that's the box turtle (the one pictured in my second post) ... pretty cool

Ill give you 500 euro for thouse two turt boxes:D Ah ah ah
Nice recues, what will happen to them:D:confused: Hope they are not made for the stewing pot:(
Ok now, your first box is filled with leaf turtles Ciclemys dentata.
The second box is filled with yellow head tortoises Indostetudo elongata and one or another forsten´s Indostestudo forsteni(hopping Im spelling correctly). The turt in your hand, besides being one of my favorite species, is a malaysian box turtle Coura amboinensis (hence my nickname;))
I have them all except for the forstens and one of my prime objectives is to find mates for all my tuts to see if I can make some babys:D
One important data here is to make you undestend just how endangered this species are in the wild. We live unfornatly in the midle of a "Asian turtle crisis" because they are searched for food, pet and medicinal uses. Ironicly the same pet trade that has reduced their numbers in the wild may just save them. Unfornatly is already to late for some species:(
Whit that in mind, see if you can find a good new home for them, so that your children and granchildren can also engoy them:D

Thanks for the offer but the turtles are not mine. The guy in the picture is not me (i am with the camera) ... the guy in the pic is one of the rescue personnel.

Amazing - 500 euros wow, but like i said these are not mine. they are not for trade but are going to be released elsewhere away from the project site and NOT into the stew pot. Though from what i gather, they are part of the local's diet.

I am not personnaly into turtles and tortoises but i just thought they looked unusual. I am more of a fishperson ^^

Thanks everyone- if i come across more of these, i will take some pics and post them (who knows could be more species to come)

Weelllll...in fact they would probably worth even more than 500euro, if they were captive bred and a breeding group you could get probably more than a thousand for them all:eek::D But being wild cauth that decrases their value because they would need to be quarentinezed, treated for parasites, etc. That could result in the loss of one or 2, but most if not all would make it, these are hardy turtles:D not like some species in wich even zoo staff lose about 80% of them:(. So glad they found a new home:D It would be so sad that they would only survive in captivity

Did not know there were box turtles in Laos, very cool!!! The torts look awesome!

They belong to a diferent subfamily than north american species, they are not closely related. They are the genus Coura and Cystoclemmys. Amazing critters and very hardy captives:D So bad many are close to the extincion:(. Mcord box tutle, yellow head box turtle, pan´s box turtle, chinese tree striped box turtle and zhou´s box turtle are all criticaly endangered. Yunnan box turtles are already extinct (both in the wild and in captivity, gone forever)
