Is there any kind of turtle that can be housed in a 55g for life? Just curious, as my mom really wants a turtle and a store in the city has 55g's for cheap. Or, if one can be kept in something smaller for life, thats even better :D

Thanks!

I agree. And instead of a 55 gallon look at 40 gallon breeders. They offer a larger footprint than a 55 gallon which is good for turtles that spend a lot of time walking on the bottom.

Thanks for the suggestion about the mud and musk turtles... any other kinds? Remember that I'm new to turtles and will take everything you guys say seriously LOL. Trolls can go feed their million cats or something. :P

Edit: Also, what do I feed mud and musk turtles? Those turtle pellet things?

You can feed mud and musk turtles foods such as turtle pellets, shrimp, algae wafers, earthworms and certain plant matter.

Turtles that will remain around 5 inches or less include:

Common Musk Turtle
Three-Stripe Mud Turtle
Eastern Mud Turtle
Mississippi Mud Turtle
Southern Painted Turtle
MALE Midland and Eastern Painted Turtles
MALE Map Turtles (Common (Northern) Map excluded)

If you can't confirm the gender on maps, stay clear. Some females get absolutely monstrous. MONSTROUS I SAY.
