Does anyone here keep turtles? I've been keeping mostly CA/SA cichlids and a small salt tank. My girlfriend wanted a turtle so I set my 40 breeder up for her. We got a few yellow belly slider hatchlings and I'm hooked! I realize they will need a huge tank, and I'm thrilled with that idea. I'm even considering converting my 75 to a turtle habitat. My only problem is my 6"ish oscar that I saved from sure death.

Anyone keep os with a turtle? Hatchlings? Pics? I'd love to set up an above tank basking area if this is possible.

oscars can sometimes be kept with turtles, but there is always a risk.
keepin mind that even your 75 gallon will not be big enough for your turtles once they are full grown

Two big predators in that size tank means a ton of bio load and alot of work. It's not that I don't think that when both at FULL size they couldn't get along just not in a 75 gallon it's too small for both.

The 75 will work for the sliders for a while, but not forever. Your best bet would be something like a big stock tank or a small pond for them when they're full grown.

I have a yellow bellied slider and peninsula cooter myself

My oscar is with my Florida Soft Shell Turtle, they don't bother eachother, but the turtle is bigger. But i did put a smaller oscar in the tank, just a little smaller, and i came home to it shredded on the bottom of the tank and one pleased looking turtle

Define a few "turtles"? How many hehe? These things get huge. And live forever....females also give birth without males...lol

I ended up just trying to grow 1 female.

They are really cool though.
:D

If your looking for a cheap short term setup you can put them all in rubbermaid containers. 104L should provide plenty of swimming room. Babies are gonna spend most their time in water.

There are 3 hatchlings in the 40 breeder right now. I plan on either building an above tank basking area or moving them to the 75 within the next month. I know ill need a much larger tank in the long run, which I'm totally prepared to do. I also realize there's a huge chance they won't play nice and live together forever.

I hope you mean "lay unfertilized eggs" without a male being present.
