Turushuki Catfish-Oxydoras niger???

Did a search on this site only about 4 threads listed on this catfish, some information on planetcatfish. However I would like to get some feedback on here from the owners of this fish. What's been your experience on size and /or growth rates? Planetcatfish lists 36" approx? Temperment? You tell by my profile my largest tank is a 180 AGA. The LFS by me just recieved 6 juvenile 4"-5" cats... could I expect to house one of these cats for at least a year? I always like to hear from other people before I introduce an unknown to my tanks.. waitng for your feedback.....:popcorn: :popcorn:

Very peaceful. No problem keeping with other fish but if you have a 180g I'd pass. Mine has grown 17" in slightly over one year. Great fish but only if you have the room.

mine was pretty stunted when i got him. the original owner had him in a 5' 125gal tank for over two years and he was way too big. since i've got him he went from an unhappy but fat 19.5" to a now 25" in only about 4months. they're monsters though. mine like i said is about 25" and right around 8-9lb. big fish for the length. gl but be carefull.
 
sounds like their growth rate is equal to an RTC, which I was afraid of. :( Thanks for the feedback
 
very mellow gets along well with others i have a 2"GT in the tank which he could easily make a meal out of but he doesn't bother the thing...bought mine at 5" he's approx 8-9" in a couple of months

Not equal at all. My RTC was 18" when I sold him. I had him for 6 months. KNH has had his for a year and its only 17". They grow pretty slow for a catfish.
 
:iagree: mine has grown just as an average fish would 1" maybe a little more a month. IMO you should be good for a year. worst case scenario you'd have to sell it an it being 17"+ you'd get a pretty good amount!!:D
how much are they selling for?

ZOO YORK- fyi- my niger has grown 17" so he is actually 21"+ now.
