Tvshow Tanked

I'm just not a big fan of all the corny tanks. Putting toy subs in tanks, putting punching bags on tanks, putting fake flames in a tank, etc etc...
So far the only tanks on the show that I truly loved was the reef tank they did for that Chinese family, and the tank they did for that church in Dallas.

I do believe that the people on the show know exactly what they're doing with the livestock. It wouldn't surprise me if a day or two after they're done filming, they replace the livestock with more appropriately sized fish. However, I don't really know what they do.

The thing to keep in mind is that while all of us would like to think that a TV show about aquariums should be aimed to please us (the actual fish keeping community), it is really aimed at the average joe who knows nothing at all about aquariums.
These guys are very good at what they do, and have been in this hobby for a very long time. You can't judge them based on what you see on this show, because it's merely a dummy-front that they use to get through the the bulk of their audience who knows nothing about fish. It's like they're full grown adults trying to do baby-talk to a young child, so to speak, and they do all of the adult-talk when the kids aren't around.

If we had our way, it wouldn't be a reality show full of drama, stupidity, and filler. It would be these two guys walking us through their tank-building process, telling us all about the fish, all about the filtration, and all about the costs of everything they do along the way.

Very well worded. If you guys want to see more of their other displays (ATM or Living Color), look at their respective websites. Both have done AMAZING top notch public and private aquariums that look like a section of nature was cut out and wrapped in acrylic.

May have been mentioned already...

Apparently when a tank is featured the customer pays for the fish and ATM provides the tank..on the show. I dont know if thats true or not...but if is then thats the reason why tanks are crowded.

Also the show is aimed at people who basically arent as educated as we are on these forums. I think the show Fish Tank Kings, is more mfk friendly lol... I watched one show and they seem to be really careful with everything...

It's entertainment, a show. But they're not stupid enough to know a big specimen for a little tank, not unless somehow it's a gar.

the way i see it most of the time the crew has little say in the tank stock and setup in the show due to the customers. They usually only show celebrity or big company tank setups on the show with rare exceptions. As a result the crew themselves are really just doing what the customer tells them. Even when they get good ideas the customer always has the final say, and considering few customers shown are highly experienced and most only thinking about the tank like a picture or a vase the options for the crew are really quite limited, for example, while i despise the decor for wades octopus tank it has arguably the best layout for tank maintenance and welfare for the stock that has been shown, when they had free reign on a design. and watching the tanks get built and assembled in shop and on site they clearly know what there doing. It's the limitations of the paying customers pocketbook and often inexperience with aquariums that make these pros look bad so often.
