I've been struggling with a few of my cichlids having Camallanus worms and grew very frustrated after several attempts at housing them in a quarantine tank and trying a bunch of different meds that I thought did the trick.I put them back into my 200 gal and noticed they still had them hanging out of them.I read that you shouldn't tweeze them out but I thought I'd try it after getting thoroughly pissed off to the point of just euthanizing them to save my other fish.I caught them, brought them in the bathroom and held each fish upside down in the net so I could see the worms and pushed gently on his stomach. The worms slightly protuded out and I tweezed each one out without problems.I really think I got all or most of them and I threw the fish back in their quarantine tank to see what happens.I honestly think it worked very well. Just thought I'd share....

I doubt that will be effective. Probably just stressed the fish even further, and there will still be worms in the rest of the digestive tract. Camallanus is a roundworm, and it doesn't respond to the typical parasite meds that are commonly available in the aquarium trade, like metro and prazi. You need to use some levamisole, flubendazole, or fenbendazole.

pics or it didnt happen :P

Sorry,no pics,my hands were full tweezing worms out of my fishes ass! Anyways BOB,yeah,I might be being a little optimistic about it helping that much but who knows,it was worth the try. Also,I tried medications with levamisole and it didn't do anything so I'm gonna up the dose.In the 15 years I've owned fish, this is by far the hardest illness to cure..

my info. in Canada says the worms usually come in via farm bred fish, so watch your use of feeder fish. Levam. works (it's a swine medication) and can be very difficult to source. (Vet connection or the "underground")

Have you tried Jungle Anti-Parasite medicated food? Useful if the fish still has appetite otherwise water-borne levamisole is your best bet. It would be a bit tricky to locate levamisole though.

I have two angels with the same worm, I noticed it about a week ago, so I bought some API Pro internal paracites meds and I've seen no effect. If all else fails im gonna pull out the tweezers also.
