Twin Titan Tanks Part 2 (Controls & mechanical)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Very cool, but massive overkill :) super nice tanks also..

LMAO, you're insane Ivan - but in a good way. :)

Looks incredibly well organized and planned out, thanks taking the time to share terrors. Doesnt seem overboard to me, it looks perfect lol. Redundant failsafes are the only way to go when you get to this level.

Do you run the aquabead filters drawing water directly from the tank? Are you forced to shut down your sump pump during backwash to prevent draining the sump, or is there sufficient sump water volume to fully backwash the bead filters with the blowers?

How do you like the inline heater. I looked at the 1.5kw model but couldn't find much info on how energy efficient it was.

Would love to hear more details whenever you have the time.

Excellent set up.Ill have to stick to running extension cords and plug bars for my tank..lol

LOL......ya, a bit insane....I have always had tanks since I was a child and dreamed of one day creating my Titan Tanks...
This is not just about the fish but a personal challenge to see what I was able to achieve.....its like, once the train starts to move, it's not that easy to stop...lol......

So why have the two tanks butted up against each other? Why not have one giant tank? The setup is amazing by the way!

Thanks....yes I must agree, The more failsafes you have, the less chance of a disaster happening...
Remember that each tank is independent of the other one, that's why there is two of everything..
The polybead draws water directly from the tank thru 4- one inch strainers that come together into a 2 inch line and to the polybead pump....
The sumps are on there own system, seperate from the polybead system,
during a back wash I have to shut down the sumps for about an hour, the backwash only takes 10 minutes, but putting back 300 gallons or so of fresh water is what takes the time.....

The heaters I have are great but hardly ever turn on, the tanks are acrylic and hold heat very well plus my big motors add heat to the tanks.....
as you can see from this pic, the twin tanks was not enough for me so I ran more pipe to the next room to pick up 3 more tanks(220gal & two 150gallons), all being filtered from the same polybeads and sumps....

So to sum it up; Tank A(750gal) plus Tank C(150gal) equals 900gallons filtered by a polybead canister and a sump.
Tank B(600gal) plus Tank D(220gal) plus Tank D1(150gal) equals 970gallons filtered by the other polybead canister filter and other sump.

The pipes in the picture go to the next room to pick up the three smaller tanks.....
the red 2 inch ball valves on the left are the in/out for tank C (150gal),
the red 2 inch ball valves on the right are the in/out for tanks D & D1 (220gal & 150gal),
the pipe with the orange cap is my drain pipe which is piped directly to a floor drain,
the two half inch pipes(which should of been at least 1 inch) are my equalizing pipes,
the one on the left joins Tk A with Tk C(all this is just a pipe that joins the two tanks together so the water level stays the same in both tanks, that are located in different rooms, more or less.
The one on the right does the same thing for the other three tanks....Make sense?

One more think, the sumps are only on the two big tanks, but the water all gets mixed around from the big motors

Oh, the wall outlet is a T.V. jack so the fish can watch their favorite shows.....:nilly:
