Two Alligator Snappers? to many?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Kind of riscky. Every single aligator sapper I´ve seen being keept with conspecifics had one way or another tail damage. Your big girl will without a doupt eat any smaller turtle she´s housed with. Also remenbar what Vicious said is virtualy impossible to keep more than one male by one enclosure without some serious figting and you are not 100% what is your turtle´s sex. If you want a second animal so bad and have the space to build a 600 enclosure ,why insted dont you build two smaller ones ?

well you didnt say you were upgrading, was I supposed to assume you were?

Two females in a 600g pond might work, but males will definately fight. Also, if the new turtle is much smaller than rock she will most likely eat it or take a chunk out.

rocks not a very agressive turt. he/she lives with 2 crawfish a pleco and like 20 algie eaters...rock kills shiners but never attacks anything, only what comes to him.

at that size you'll manage by getting another tank....the two together I would not advise

are you acutally alowed to keep them? its just i thought they were endengerd/ threatend spiecies on the red list.

It just depends where you live. I know that they are a threatened species in some states, possibly endangered in others. You can purchase captive bred ones online or at reptile shows.

Here's a few pics of some Alligator Snappers for sale at a show I was at.

they have a ton of farms where they are mass produced to return to the wild and to sell to hobbyists.
