for black water i always added peat moss (either fluval pellets or just sphagnum peat moss from the local nursery much cheaper btw) to a filter bag and put it in my canister filter not only did my plants seem to like it my german rams bred every time i changed the stuff

Yeah, its nice to do it that way, put it in a panty hose. It really really really colors up your water though. So its debate able. If you boil it for like 15 minutes it removes some of the leeching, but it will still lower your pH...;). Plus, after the water cools down, you can add it to your tank, instant black water.

i did the almond leaves or wateva they were nd the y work well

I just accepted a job with a startup company in NC, which is great, but I have to move, which is not. These girls are for sale, $100 each. You can see what else I have available right now at http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?p=869158#post869158

However, if I can find a big male or two reasonably I reserve the right to not sell at least one of these fine ladies.

And by the way, for the dark water I have relied only on the wood and plant matter in the tank, no bottled chemicals or peat moss, etc.
