Octojimmy asked in the ELectric Blue Dempsey social group, if anyone uses actinic lighting over their blue dempsey tanks.

So I took some comparison shots between an Aqua Glo bulb, and Actinic lighting, between the blue dempsey and the Gold Blue dempsey bred by Marc 74Ray.

Here is Aqua Glo, common to many aquariums:

These pics show true color, so hope this helps.

I can clearly see the difference. Thanks for posting!

Which one do you like better though?

I can't pick one over the other. I love the black pattern and deep blue combo on an Electric blue, but the absense of black pattern on the Gold Blue perfectly compliments the lighter shade of blue color.

The fins on the Gold Blue have to be seen to fully be appreciaited, the opaqueness that the fish gets from the Gold trait, really makes the fish glow inside and out.

As for the lighting, I prefer the Aqua GLo, because it produces more contrast between the fish and the rest of the tank, but it still has the right ammount of blue spectrum to compliment the fish's natural color.

Now, with different colored substrate, I might change my mind, but my black/grey substrate picks up the blue color of the light, and you'll notice in the pics, the fish really blend in with my gravel a bit too much.

gotta get me one of those.

He's sold out of the gold blues, but hopefully he'll have some available in the near future.
