Hello all!!

ok, here is a weird one. i am not sure if this can happen.

i feel that i have two female JD's, they are small, only about 4".
i have had them for over a year, got them when they were small.
they were in a 55g with 2 other oscars(also young). one oscar died
and the other one grew to massive size (that's billy).

one day i notice that the two small jd's where attacking billy.
i placed the two jd's in their own tank. two days later, eggs..

for the past 3 months, like clock work, eggs. no fry. just eggs, they all turn white and go away(bad eggs). two weeks later, more eggs. over and over, this happens.

this week was a little different, they were lip locking, but they really hurt each other. bad.... they both had bad wounds on their noses. they kept to themselves for a few days then went right at it again.

ok, there is some info. here are the questions:

can two females that have no males around lay eggs?

can two jd's that are only 4" breed? (they have been the same size for months)

are there mini jd's?

if i left anything out, please let me know.

TIA!!!

(kool site btw)

their is no such thing as mini jd's. as for the breeding, the females can produce eggs by themselves, but with out a male to fertilize them they just go bad then get eaten. not sure about the size but clearly at 4" they can lay eggs so i don't see why not.

thank you!!

ok so now, i have done more reading, and i can see that the two small jd's are female
because i do not see a "beard". i do have another larger jd (named Jack, 8"+), he is about 2 years old, would i be placing the females in danger if i place them in there with him?

billy the oscar is over 9".
and fat...
loves his blood worms and minnows.

jack the JD is 8"+
jack has a tank mate called blade(african blade) he is only about 6"

j + d are the females 4"

and a tank full of bait fish, as pets...

yeah, i have no idea how or why jack and blade get along, but they do..

u could try it but a pair of JDs need a 55 to them self's.

My 4" jds just spawned a couple days ago for the first time. Now I have about 250-300 fry.
