two female mini JD's laying eggs?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the females are the ones with the dominant "beard" males don't have as much spangling on the gill plate, but the males tend to be more colorful down its body. my female is 9" and has a solids "beard" but no spangling on its body. so if your small jd's don't have the massive amount of spangling on its gill plate then its a male, unless stressed.

ok, Jack has no spangling on his jaw.
J & D 's jaws are covered with spangling.

would i be ok if i placed J & D in with Jack? (55g)

can Jack be ok with two females?

Great!!!

now, i have to start thinking about what to do with all the fry...

after they have a brood, will they continue to lay eggs every 2 weeks??

once you have a pair, remove the other female.

hi, here is a small update.

the two small female jd's have still been laying eggs.

as of two weeks ago, fry.

so, one must of been a male.

200+ fry, soooo damn cute!!

then last week, no more fry and the male was attacking the female.

did the male eat the fry and abuse the female for some messed up reason or
did the female eat them and the male is pissed at her for it?

anyhow, i expect more eggs any day now.

do i pull the flat birthing rock out right before they hatch?

what am i going to do with 200+ fry?

thank you....

^ take the fry when they are bigger and get store credit from your LFS or sell them here.

more news, the male out of the blue, is sporting a kok and the female is showing stripes.

just in the past two weeks, i have been starting to tell the difference between the two.

the male has gotten larger and darker and the female has gotten lighter in color and has stripes now.

kinda kool!!!!
