how long do i wait till i take them out and place the fry in their own tank?

it has been 14 days so far.

Anytime really. They should be large enough now to eat most crushed flake foods and stuff to survive without the parents around. The longer you leave them in, the more you risk the parents turning on them when they decide they want to lay more eggs. You might still get a few weeks before that happens though. Never know.

not sure if i should have gravel or not.

Gravel is mostly just a personal preference. Some people are afraid the fry might get stuck down inside of it, but the odds of that are fairly small. If they can get in they can likely get back out.

Could just do sand or bare bottom if you are worried about it. I'd add some sort of cover in there for them though to keep their stress down (real/fake plants, or some rocks). Fry don't like being exposed.

well, sadly, the last fry died a few days ago.

i can see that Jay and Dee are getting ready to drop more eggs.

here is my question: can i just pull the slate after they drop the eggs?

Dee has covered the yellow cheesy bamboo shack with her eggs.

Did she know i wanted to pull the slate?

There are eggs all over!! On the gravel, everything!!!
