Two green sunfish!

I went fishing with a buddy of mine last night for catfish. We were catching these little beauties for bait, and when we were done fishing I took the two smallest home with me. They're setup in my spare 10gal for a few days until I can find them a bigger home of their own.

I also find it ironic that I add two green sunfish to my collection the same day I get the "green sunfish" post count title lol.
 
I agreed with WahooWillie, these sunfish are not green but they are actually redbreasts. Redbreast lacks of black spot in dorsal and anal fins and also lack of white/pink spot on the ear. Also the mouth isn't quite large through I can understand why you mistake them as greens as redbreasts can have big mouth but not that big. Also redbreast sunfish are not that big sunfish compared to Green sunfish which can reach more than 10 inches.
 
beautiful fish though. I have a sunfish that looks exactly like the first picture. i't reallly does look like a pumpkinseed just without the crimson patch

After doing a bit of sniffing around I'm thinking it could still have juvenile markings of the redbreast. The only thing that's got me scratching my head is that it's probably around 4 inches long, and of fair girth. Wouldn't you think that at the size it is the juvenile markings would have changed? Oh, and the guy in the second photo is much smaller, and as you can see has totally different markings.

Top is male, bottom is female. Fish are still redbreasts.
At 4'' that male should / could have a longer ear tab, but there can always variation between individuals.
