Two green sunfish!

A female huh? That's pretty cool! You ever kept these guys?
I have kept some on a few different occasions, but do not keep any currently. My fist one did well in a tank with 1 bluegill, 1 rockbass, and 8 spotfin shiners. It did well until it reach the 4-5'' mark, was clearly sexually mature (bright colors, fanning out the gravel, too), and then killed off the bluegill and rockbass. It ddi fine with the spotfin shiners since they were about 4 inches as well. When he reached 6 inches, all but the biggest two shiners disappeared. My second experience was a bit different. I had 4 redbreasts and 6 greens all around 2'' in the same tank for about a year until they became too big, and I was moving to another state. So in my experience, they either do best when by themselves accompanied by large, fast minnows (too big to eat), or in crowded groups where no one can establish a territory. All in all, redbreasts are some mean SOBs. I love 'em.

Well the female just died. It's kind of a bumber, I think she was over stressed from the capture, and the male picking on her.

I agree with everyone else. Not green sunfish. For reference, my picture is my green sunfish. That is a bummer that she died. Would have been cool to somehow breed them.

Yeah, like I said I think she was just over stressed. She also didn't eat, where the male swallowed up 5 mealworms the morning after I caught him. I'm planning to go fishing again this weekend for some black crappie, and the odds are pretty good that I'll run across a few more redbreasts too.
