two new turtles

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The first definitely looks like a peninsula cooter. Mine looked almost exactly like that about 6 years ago. I think the second is a cooter, but I'm not sure on exactly what kind. I'm not as up on my turtles as I used to be. I started mine in a 29 gallon for the first couple years and then moved him in and my yellow belly slider into a 55. I'm hoping to get a big stock tank or something for them pretty soon though. Luckily I ended up with a male cooter, so he'll probably be 10-12", and not like 13-15" like a female.

with all these turtles you should look into waterland tubs, the large size would easily house a few large turtles

Wow nice pickups:D :popcorn:The first one is a peninsula cooter Pseudemys floridana peninsularis the other is a florida red belly Pseudemys nelsoni. You just created yourself a "florida turtle´s" tank:naughty: Very nice turtles:D Like it was stated before if female they are both going to get quite large but beleave me when I say that will take about 12-16 years for them to become full grown(but they will become a handfull by about 7 years old;)). They will need that same kind of setup that you will need for your map if it turns out female so it wont be a big deal. Of corse a outdoor pond is a must have for summer and spring. Also a very large indoor tank will be needed for winter since this guys dont handle cold well. The 75 gallon you want to keep them in is overkill for now. Set them in a much smaller tank, see if you can get them to eat and grow a bit and then give them a bigger living space. As for food feed them like you do to your map, but as they grow gradualy increase the vegetable part. Dark leafy vegetables are VERY important for the health and proper growth of cooters. Aquatic plants such as anacharis will also be taken:D;)
