Two rays, sold to me as teacup, different pattern

Really? I have always used flubendazole based workers to no ill effect? And at full dosage. I have never had any ill effects. Not doubting your knowledge. So the kusuri wormer should not say ray safe? All the rays I have at the moment including the pups have been dosed and are feeding brilliantly.

Hi Sam.
That is the exact product I am talking about. I have many phone calls from people that have used this product with terrible results, its fine with pretty much all other fish but rays absolutely not.......you have been very lucky imo.

I'm going back somewhat now but does anyone remember a guy on here called Sharptooth? He used it on his rays(Pearl) because it said ray friendly and the pattern literally ran(melted) in front of his eyes, he quickly resorted to doing huge water changes. Thankfully he saved them..just! but the pattern took months to reappear.
I have used and do use Kusuri wormer almost every day for other species, it is a very good product, just thought I would point that out.

I don't doubt what you say though Sam......not for a moment.

I have the exact opposite patterns on my male and female retics... and my female has grown much faster... i agree they are both retics, and your female does look on the skinny side.. but i also wouldnt rule out a growth rate/size varient between the 2 possible sub species. imo your concern is viable from my own experiances with retics.. but both the other responders have much more experiance w/ rays then I do. and lol i like your female ( my males pattern) better.

Thanks for the posts guys. I feed once a day, and they won't eat anything but worms. Female can't even tackle a full worm yet. I will increase the meal to twice a day and feed more. She's been otherwise healthy so I am not going to worry about any medication. To the above poster, is your male rays pattern, the one that's the same as my female, darker or the same colour as mine? And how old and big is it? Notice any big growth spurts?

Very similar, he was my first retic, so I've had him since the beginning of February. instead of trying to describe him ill try and snap a picture of him and post it for you. he's had slow, steady growth from the beginning while my female was smaller when i got her in march i believe and is now obviously larger. since female get larger at first i didn't think much but she is also a much more aggressive eater then he is. he will now eat small nightcrawler pieces but still prefers black worms. shes a pig. i thought she may have been an Orb, but had her IDd as a retic by the guys here. and they know their rays.

I have a pair of retics too, and their patterning is slightly different. Also my female which I got after my male is a slow eater and doesn't gorge herself as much as the male which means she is growing slower do to it having less energy to grow. My male has really distinctive markings and a pinty tail as for my female it has a fatter blunt tail. As I have been told the pointy versus blunted tail is just a genetic phenamina in all rays, blunted tail being more ideal genetics. Chances are they are both retics and look pretty to me. Nice rays by the way, would recommend trying different food to see what you little lady really likes to eat, live blood worms, or black worms usually work. I don't know much about the more exotic larger rays but I do know that most pet stores don't want to sell the more valuable rays as retics. Usally they try to pass them off for something of higher value. Like I said pretty rays, keep feeding them and keep them fat and happy. As long as you see them both eating you should be fine.
