Two red texas cichlids in a 240?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Bro be careful there are many fish in that tank that may be killed. Trust me bro... SRT have pissy tempers, keep a close eye on them. There breed eithe with KKP/Red Devil x Texas... All of which can have a nsty temper. I think you see where Im going with this.

The importer is Rainnybetta on aquabid:

I don't know if he has any 3" ones up. He didn't when I was looking, I sent him an email and he added a bunch, so he might have them but not listed.

Musha I am definitely keeping an eye on the one that is still in there. Of the two this one is much less aggressive. My EBJDs are out and trying to do their breeding ting with each other which they weren't doing when the other one was in there, so I think things are improving. All of these fish will probably grow slower than the SRT too which doesn't help. Oh well.

The other one is in my aggressive tank with regular jack dempsey, green texas, green terrors, and convicts.

I eventually had to move them both out due to aggression. One of them has recently mellowed out and actually become quite shy. I put him back in the community aquarium

Just eyeballing it I think he is about 6" now.

I would never keep my RT with my EBJDs. I have had 3 RTs and all of them became very aggressive at the 6" mark. You will know what Im talking about but it will be to late. I curently have a RT pair in a 260g they are about 8" or 9" right now and getting along great. One other thing I noticed that when they are stressed they get more black coloring on them. Here's some pics of them.

I agree with what some of the others have stated, your RT's would do best on their own. EBJD's will be no match for them once your RT's get larger. I have a m/f pair of RT's in a 125 and even though they have never spawned for me they will not tolerate ANY other fish in this tank, not even small juvies.

BTW - your RT's are looking great, Sean!

Update on this thread. They are both now 6-8 inches or so. I was able to keep the nicer one in the community aquarium. The other one lives by himself. The blurry shot is to give a sense of scale, he's really big.
