Here's my strange 2 spot cichla sp from Aquascape. Fresh from Taiwan, I know for a fact its F1, and possibly some sort of hybrid.

A few weeks ago, he lost all of his pattern and turned bright gold overnight. I thought he might have been getting bullied, or maybe my water conditions strayed from perfect, but it seems to have stuck. Here he is today...06252012twospot1.JPG

Anyone have an idea of what we're looking at? Something tells me a Kelberi, but that's just gut feeling. Help me out! :screwy:

Right now he looks fugly. Grow it out. Maybe he'll turn into a swan. Golden bahia.

wait, wait, wait....don't tell me bare bottom tank? :lipsseale

Nope. Tan colored ceramic tile...same way I've been keeping cichla for years. My azuls still look normal, as do the other fish in the tank. He's been like this for about 2 weeks now.

Why? I have my two in a bare bottom tank? Mine also are from the same batch his is. Mine will lose their patterns and look like this for short periods of time but don't stay like that. Like I've stated about these lil guy's before, they appear to be able to morph color & patterns even if not stressed and within seconds. I have videos of this and is crazy to see. But all in all as you can see from my grow out thread they have always showed good color / pattern and I have for the most part grown them out in bare bottom tanks.

I have two from this same batch and they change all the time, not stress lines, colors.

THE HOLLY GRAIL "GOLDEN CICHLA". All my tanks are bare bottom so what's the deal? I don't get it as he woulod say in "They call me Bruce".

I've seen some bare bottom tanks and the fish almost look washed out. THen again, some of the nicest cichla I've ever seen are kept bare bottom, so go figure.
