type of food for a base diet

I was using flakes at first now i switched to hikari cichlid gold but there not eating it but i think it because it is the floating type before when i used sinking algae wafer the butti just ate it all up and the devil ate it to

Most of the cichlids I have owned do not go for floating type, including the ones I have now. That is why I use sinking. I wish they liked floating, because I cannot find a sinking cichlid pellet at an lfs. I have to order Cichlid Gold sinking.

my staple is hikari pellets, i have a mixture of gold, biogold, staple, sinking, and some no name pellets for most of my fish, even my pbass and pike will eat pellets when there hungry otherwise they spit them out and beg for shrimp
