Type of severum?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My theory is that the the other sev must be triggering his territorial instincts. When my cichlids were smaller i kept several of them in a 75. When my midevil was in the tank, my gold sev would go nuts and attack everyone. If i took the midevil out she was fine. Maybe she didnt like fish of similar color or something.

It looks like some kind of efasciatus in breeding dress. Unless you have a catch location, its safest to just assume its some kind of mix efasciatus mix.

That's most likely why he is being so aggressive out of know where. Even without the opposite sex being present they will still have breeding behaviours/colors?

Yep. If they want to breed they can still get territorial and change color to try and attract a mate without someone else in the tank. Even the most passive cichild species can have aggressive individuals.

Hey, I know this post is old but I'd love to know how things turned out. I just started having the same problem with my severum. I already had to separate him from my other male due to him bullying him about 6 mths ago. Now he's chasing all my rainbows around in the tank. It's a 120 g so he has plenty of room. Since my other severum is a bit smaller, do you think I can put him and the silver dollars back into the 120g and move the aggressive severum into the 75g or would that be cruel. He could be all by himself.
