I have a 20 gallon galvanized steel tub suspended over the tank. I use a growing medium of pea pebbles and lava rock cinders. If you decide to have the grow bed resting on top of the tank then you should use a lighter medium such as hydroton. I use a bell syphon to flood and drain the growbed. Currently I have 2 green sunfish and a bluegill and a blackworm culture in the tank. The aquaponics is the only filtration I have on the tank and I feed heavily on a daily basis.
