Types of Convicts?

Don't forget Amatitliana siquia which is supposedly new to the trade and they are NOT Honduran Red Point. Rapps has them and so shall I soon. :D

A. kanna, A. siquia and A. coatepeque, A. nigrofasciatus are four recognized "convict" species, with probably a few more out there that aren't yet classified. I also have seen them being classed as Cryptoheros now.

From CRC on distinguishing the other three from A. nigrofasciatus:
Diagnosis: Three distinctive characters: first bar on side of body, Y-shaped, well marked, caudal arm discontinuous; bars from sides of body extending fully to the edge of dorsal and anal fins; medial intensifications on 2nd and 3rd bars, sometimes also on 1st (Schmitter-Soto, 2007). This characters are given for Amatitlania.

To distinguish from A. kanna, A. siquia and A. coatepeque, the following diagnostic traits are given: the only species in the genus with two (vs. one) distal rows of interradial scales on anal fin, and arms in the first epibranchial bone parallel (vs. divergent). In addition, posterior end of dentigerous arm of dentary rounded or squarish (vs. triple-spined or bluntly pointed). Peritoneal coloration uniformly dark (vs. not uniformly dark). Rostrad directed pronounced convexity on the ventral process of the articular absent (vs. present). Also morphometric differences (body less deep) vs. A. kanna and A. siquia, and coloration differences (4th bar not Y-shaped) vs. A. coatepeque.

i dont know scientific names but i know there are black cons , pink cons , calico cons and marbled cons but i think marbled cons are just the product of breeding a pink and black con together.

All of these besides "black" are line bred color variants of A. nigrofasciatus or possibly some hybridization between other "convict" species.
