Typical top and bottom aquarium plastic rims

Hey guys, I finally got myself the 55 gallon tank I wanted this whole time but as I was cleaning it up I noticed a few things...both plastic rims (top and bottom) are coming apart and is cracked in the middle on one side...I was wondering if there was a way of removing the plastic, scraping off the dried up adhesive (this is an old used tank), and replacing it with either the same rims or a new set. if a new top and bottom rim are needed, where could I go about buying them? if pics are needed, please ask and I'll post.

Im not sure about the bottom but the top can be removed even with water in it. Iv done this a few times to make rimless tanks.

i'd replace them. your local lfs should be able to get them for you. 55 gallon readily available.

It helps if you know the manufacturer of your tank but if you don't know it, just measure the length and width of the tank glass and your LFS should be able to help figure out what you need.

really? didn't know that. and home depot will custom cut glass or acrylic plexiglass for you... wonder what kind of savings (if any) are available if you just build your own tank?

thanks for the advice everyone...I will start by asking one of my trusted aquatics store...hopefully they have or can order the trim for me...if not then that link is exactly what I need =)

Not trying to thread-jack here, but Home Depot's glass isn't thick enough for aquarium use. Also, they have custom names for their acrylic, so I haven't figured out yet if their stuff is appropriate for aquariums either (ie, cell-cast).

Removing the frames can be a chore. I suggest you slice away the top part of the frame first (be careful not to chip the glass). Then it's easy to remove the remaining pieces.
