Hello all.

How aggressive are tyrannochromis? I just saw one at my lfs, and want to get it, but the problem is I don't have a african tank for it...

Is it unaggresive to be able to live with four full grown angelfish in a 6' for a few days until i can sort out a new tank?

If that doesn't work, will a 18" tank work for a few days?

Well it depends on the Individual. All the Tyrannochromis males I had untill now were less aggresive than a Nimbochromis Fuscotaeniatus, but thats no gaurantee.

I don't know how large your angelfish are, but a smaller Tyrannochromis shouldn't be to aggressive(especially if it would be a lonely male) I would say that if the angelfish are that large that they won't fit in its mouth(say half the size or more of the tyrannochromis) then it shouldn't be a problem.

Keep in mind that these fish can get quite large, 12" is no exception and that you will need a large tank to house them.

The angelfish are about the same size, maybe 1/2" smaller than him.

The tyrannochromis is about 6 to 6.5". The angelfish aren't small, and they aren't pushovers. I would be confident putting him in there for a little while, just wanted to hear your opinions.

Theres a bit of rockery in he tank allready, so he can hide out there for a while... And yes, he would be the only african to go in there (for now)

You could try it. I would say it is a 50/50 crap shoot either way.

How big are they? You should buy a couple and ship them to me. LOL

Well the Tyrannochromis is 6-7" and the angelfish are 5-6". There is only one at the petshop and it's a lonely male. Still not 100% sure on whether it's macrostoma or nigriventer, but it's probably the macrostoma. The thing is, I won't be able to keep an eye on it if it goes ape, i'll be away for 4 days, and i can assure the house sitters won't know what to do with it.

I just don't want to come home and find my fish dead cos of it.

I think what I might do is ask to keep it on hold, while I sort out the housing stuff.

It's a hard ID as I didn't get a picture, but one clear detail i do remember is the line that goes from the eye, down diagonally.

Looking at the pictures, i'm leaning towards Nigriventer, but it just sounds too good to be true. A tyrannochromis, big news in itself, but then turns out to be the rarer Nigriventer lol, way too good to be true... :D

I'll see if i can go down tommorrow and get a picture for you all.

Definately put it n hold till you're back IMO. Awesome fish though, been trying to get one for months. They are very hard to come by round here, very jealous.

That's an excellent idea, just buy it and have the LFS keep it for you until you return and sort out the tank situation.

Why not put a divider in the tank giving more roon to the tyrann. I would be worried thr dude will sell the rare fish while your away for 4 days.
