U.S. closes door to four snake species

They're trying to ban all pythons, boas, and colubrids in my state. You'd have to try to be seriously injured by a corn snake! I have VA sometimes.

To be fair, do we really need to import Burms? I thought they were damn cheap enough as it is and they are a hugely invasive and dangerous species in Florida.

Does the law state you can't OWN these animals anymore, or just can't import them?

its import, and they are turbo invaded in fl, so obtaining one wont be a challenge at all, but soon it will be illegal to buy and sell, probly not own tho

The burms invaded Florida after a hurricane set them free. They are banned for the general public in Florida anyway, so this ban is nothing short of pure stupidity on the government's part.

What hurricane? I was always under the idea that people released the snakes and since Florida has mostly nice and humid weather, it was perfect breeding ground.

I do think some animals do not belong in the pet trade. Burms are one of them. I also don't think we need pangasius cats at Petsmart for $5 or common plecos.

Im happy about this. Like I need to see another reddish egret or night heron stuffed halfway down a burmese python in the glades.
