Sounds serious....if passed, it prohibits the importation, transportation between states. and ownership of:

anacondas
all BC and rainbow boas
balls & angolans
bloods & short-tails
retics
burms & african rocks
Timor pythons

...unless for scientific, medical, or educational purposes, in which require a permit, of course.

Actually read the proposed bill and the reasoning behind it. It's not banning them just because somebody thinks they're dangerous, nor is it completely banning them to the public. It is banning importation and interstate transport by the public so that none of these species becomes established in a new habitat. That's a pretty hard point for us to argue with, so if we're going to send them comments, I think we'd be better off suggesting an alternative solution (such as permits for the public) rather than whining for them not to pass the bill because it'll keep us from enjoying our hobby.

surely that's going to effect it all quite a lot if you can't move animals between states- I think that sucks personally. I guess what I fail to remember is that a state is still about as big as the UK lol. Surely most places though a released snake wouldn't survive? How about licencing in just those states? I can see it going through for say the big 5 snakes or so. Boas well... hit or miss... but the bloods/ball pythons and rainbow boas? Do you have a massive problem of these as invasive species throughout the North America?

Either way this would be a terrible hit for herp keepers if they passed this.

If they means interstate transportation do they means ground or air?

Here... it's pretty much illegal to ship live animals through the postal system. So if we want anything, we would have to drive them ourselves or go through a aerial shipment.
