You're right. It's a lot like fishing in that you never really know for sure what you're going to get. I love it.

OK, the big reveal of the secret aquascaping change (it's really a minor thing, nothing to get excited about, but, it does give the tank a tiny bit more character, is revealed in this video:

A bucket and a stick are often enough for me when i collect fish in small streams.
But these streams must not be protected...

You're correct, the streams that I collect in not protected with regard to collecting these species. I have to follow my state's fishing regulations. There are methods that we are allowed or not allowed to use, depending on what state that I'm fishing in. For example, in Virginia, you can use a larger seine than you can in Maryland. Another example is that I have to be careful that I'm not collecting in a designated trout stream in Maryland. No matter how you collect though, it's fun, almost like being a kid again and playing in the creek. Well, not almost, just like it except with more effective methods :)

It's been a couple months since my last update. After I went and returned from a vacation, my tank was overrun with cyanobacteria and other algae. My stonerollers were fat and happy though, but, the tank was ugly, so I broke it down for the most part and gave it a major cleaning. The canister filter was clogged and barely putting out any current, so I had to do something. Man, that blackbeard algae is tough to scrub off. It has little holdfasts that are tough. I tried several brushes until I found one that worked to remove it from the rocks, even after I gave the rocks a hydrogen peroxide bath for a couple days. I also soaked my plants in a hydrogen peroxide solution and that seemed to kill off all of the cyano and algae, and was able to rinse almost all of it off. Anyway, I explain more in detail in the video. Also, check out my fancy fish room updates.

looks to be very healthy aquarium...

Sorry about that Dee. I had to make some edits. My reflection ruined my talk about the oyster reef tank, so I had to cut parts out. It's going to take a few hours for the edits to update. Please check back tonight or tomorrow.

Yep, got to see the video and I did notice those mussel shells in the tank before and was wondering if they were live or just decorations so thanks for the clarification.

The colors really pop when the fish are feeding and they look great.

Thank you Dee. Good eyes!!!! It was such a minor detail, but I thought it might be kind of fun to see what everyone thought.
