I think the amphs would end up getting out competed and bullied when the ferns get beefy. It's good to see your confident to pick up more.

Thanks. Through this experience I've learned that people sort of put these fish on a pedestal. I know I did. I don't think these fish are much different than other south American fish. All I've really done is keep my water soft, warm, and clean and I've been able to treat ich, a bacterial infection, and gotten some signs of courting. My experience is by no means over or complete in any way, but I do hope the people that read this thread will gain as much confidence to keep these fish as I have. Also, some far away shots of my new adults swimming with the juvies.

My first bout with these guys didn't end well, and the fish in front in the second pic reminds me of that batch. Ask around and see what people say.

Edit - for one, see the beaky snout? I think it's actually pitting between the eyes. Where did you get them from?

Ahh. That. I did notice that. I didn't notice any signs of pitting and haven't yet. I inspected them VERY closely before purchase. Honestly, it looks like a small nauchal hump, but I don't think pandas get those. I'm not sure. I was told they were "imported from south america" but again, there is no way I can be sure when they came from a fish store. I can say that these two haven't eaten yet. My others ate right out of the bag. Either way, the new guys are going to get the same treatment of metro, paragaurd, and hex shield the last three got. Would some closer pics help?

I don't mean small pits like hith...more like a big pit/dent almost like the brain is getting hollow from inside. Sorry I hope this is nothing. It just that it happened to my first batch years ago and it went ugly.

Also you might want to think about What else you want to have in the tank eventually, and treat everything now. Once the tank is established, don't add anything unless you absolutely have to.

Don't apologize. I will take literally any information I can. I'll post it in the disease section and tag you. We will see what happens. As far as tank mates, there won't be any. These guys are going to stay by themselves.
