Hunger strike appears to be nearing it's end. They are picking at some romaine. Going on their third day without a meal.

I kept Uarus for years, they spawned several times. I learned early that they got sick/lethargic/stopped spawning at any temp under 85F and that pH was way less important than water temp. I haven't read the entire 16 pages of this thread but it appears you are maintaining temps way below that?

They were being maintained at 82 for a while. I bumped them up to 85 a few days ago and noticed a small increase in activity. Thinking about pushing them back up to 87. What species of uaru did you keep?

This was back in the 90s and there was only amphiacanthoides, that we knew of anyway . They were that tan color with the black bar but when they were really happy and healthy both sexes got an iridescent blue overlay. They were black with white spots as babies. i was a serious enthusiast and kept an array of Africans but I was so charmed by the Roos I ended up selling everything else. They're eerily smart when happy. Divorce and job got me to end my fish keeping but now 15 years later there's this spot in my new place that would be perfect for a 70g lol... So I'm lurking the forums seeing what's new in the hobby.

If you've got any Ich I would bump them up to 90f for a few days. They like discus temps. That's one of the reasons I sold all my Africans, the Roos like it warmer that most cichlids. 2 of my adults would destroy a whole romaine leaf in minutes. They should be ravenous eaters.

Great story, and welcome to MFK! I love seeing lurkers become members. My wife did the same thing. Lurked forever before joining. The temp bump made a difference in the pandas, but something keeps pushing my ph back. Not quickly, but certainly happening. Not sure what's buffering my water right now. Tds before the HCL is 15. Not much buffering capacity.

Had a bad bout of ich a few pages back. Ended up losing one before it was all said and done.

I looked through your pics and they are lovely! They look like a different variation than what I was keeping. I did see the circling video, you might try killing the bubble bar. Mine didn't like aggressive aeration (I know 'my fish didn't like..' sounds crazy lol).
