I kept little suction cupped clamps on the inside of the tank to hold the romaine leaves so they could rip chunks from it. Mine ate zucchini, pumpkin, mango, apple, pear, bloodworms, brine shrimp, romaine, mosquito larvae, pieces of earthworm and some commercial food of course. The clamps make it easy to remove if they don't like whatever you're feeding. Don't know if any of these suggestions turn the mood lights on for your fish but you never know lol

So I haven't updated in a while, but there is good and bad. On the upside, with temp up to 86.5, their activity and appetite has returned in full force. I'll chalk that up to a learning experience. So many fish do well at 82, just not these ones. The bad: my ph meter broke. I have no idea what the ph of the tank is now, but it's under 6. The HCL dosing is obviously very dependant on knowing ph at all times. Looking into a new, better one, but funds are low at the moment. Not sure what I'm going to do about this.

So! Got a new ph meter in yesterday. Went with the American marine pinpoint monitor. Much better quality than the pen style one I was using. Did 2 water changes this morning because of waiting for new ph meter. Ph after change, 4.51. I expect this to raise slightly over the next day or so. Should end up at around 5. Most important thing, pandas are happy!

Another note, water parameters for this tank are fairly consistent. After changes this morning, I measured the following:
PH 4.51
Tds 46
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate <5

Everything I've read says my bio filter will die off at ph lower than 6. Mine still seems to be functioning. I'm still measuring nitrates. I can't say exactly how WELL it's working because of how many water changes I do, but I can say that it is working. Anyone have any insight to this? Last edit: my green phantom pleco absolutely loves these water conditions. He's growing quickly, out all the time, and displaying great colors. The soft water also cleared up the HITH he had when I first got him within a week.

So my smallest panda hasn't been doing too hot. Not eating much, looking skinny, and generally acting weird. The really weird thing, he has developed tiny red protrusions in his mouth. They look like sharp little red teeth. The last small panda I lost had the same thing. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could cause that? Charney Charney peathenster peathenster

Thank you. They are cool, but given the chance I don't think I would purchase them again. Tons and tons of work, stress, and disease.

That's one thing that scares about keeping fish like that. But kudos to you for giving it a shot. I'm sure it's so much freaken work haha.

I used to use a floating metal mesh thing to feed them blackworms from time to time. I think they hit the mesh too hard and several broke their lips and developed red/oranges bumps that were probably secondary infections. I gave them an antibiotic+anti fungal bath for 24h and it fixed the infections. They recovered soon after. The batch was amoxicillin and methylene blue in a bucket with an airstone. Not sure if yours has an infection too but the batch didn't seem to have hurt them in anyway, except for the blue lips that lasted for a couple of days.
