Uaru questions

They're great fish, I've kept them several times and I'm on the hunt for some for my big tank now.

Warm soft water is ideal, but I think as long as it isn't extremely hard you'll be ok. They grow fast too from that size. I don't like your chances with pothos, mine have always eaten anything plant-based, including nibbling on driftwood!

That's what I was thinking when I added the pothos. Maybe when they get bigger it'll b a problem. Right now just a little nibble or two. I feed a lot of lettuce and they spend most their time chasing it around.

I guess if there is other vegetation around for them to graze on they might leave the pothos alone, until they get hungry or bored!

I wouldn't chance it with the pothos, might be ok as little guys, but once they get bigger they are lawn mowers..... worse then any silver dollar you can imagine, even ate my java fern

Maybe I'll try baskets with gravel. If I can keep the roots away maybe they'll have a chance....
Got to try

If they can reach it, it will die. Nothing has been Uaru proof of anything I have ever tried. I put a heater guard over the roots and with a 1/2" stem exposed at the top of the tank mostly out of water they still managed to sever it in half. Uaru are awesome fish but not from the tank setup perspective

I used to have a small group of the common Uarus in my tank
Very chilled and relaxed for a Cichlid.
Two paired up in my community tank, and laid eggs, but nothing became of them.
As has been said above, they will demolish anything green in your tank. Even Java Fern & Anubius.

I know u guys r right. Pothos not a good idea. But again, it's worth trying something. Isn't that what our hobby is all about.?
I'll post some pics of what I come up with.

Do these guys ever stop eating?
Their favorite is spinich and lettuce. But they also get spirulina and tetramin flake.
I thought my rays ate a lot.
