MFK needs Joey? What the what? LMAO
YouTube is a great medium for many things aquatic, and non aquatic, but this forum sure as hell doesn't need Joey, or anyone like him. There is no symbiotic relationship.

Also I am not a fan boy but I do believe that a lot of the criticism he gets here is unfair and kind of nasty given that he is just some guy who made a living off of fish tank videos.

I agree, somewhat, but when you put yourself out on display to the public, you become fair game for both pro and con comments, from your peers. That's just reality, and that's why Joey never stays long on public forums. A lot of great hobbyists have come and gone from MFK over the years, for me, Joey is not on that list.

And George, keep in mind that it was you that triggered all this brouhaha by posting this vid here on MFK. Without that link, I would have never watched this vid, or commented about it. You opened the door amigo.

Why is Joey being called a con man? A con man is someone who gains your confidence and then uses it to steal from or manipulate you. Joey is not a con man. He is an entertainer. Yes, he puts out less DIY videos then he once did, and maybe his self awarded 'title' of "King of DIY" is inaccurate, but he isn't tricking anyone or stealing from anyone. First of all, he did not title his video "How to build a pico reef" and then show you his life story, which would be bait & switch then con man. He did not use extortion to get his $50k, and I haven't yet heard anyone accusing him of embezzling any of that money and using it for anything that he didn't say he would use it for. The most legit complaint have heard was that he supposedly said he'd open his fish house to the public and that he hasn't done that.

Most complaints against him fall under two ctegories:
1) I'm his fanboy and he;'s showing stuff that appeals to his others fans, not me. >:(
2) I'm jealous of his fish, tanks, arms, popularity, etc., etc.

He is making money, but he is selling a product, same as Disney or Netflix. People chose to throw money at him ontop of that, and he took it. Wouldn't you? If you don't like the drection he is going, try to compete with him!

He puts himself on a pedestal as the saviour of fish keeping, giving out questionable information seemingly killing more fish then captain birdseye.

This is something I have always wondered. I'm no fanboy but everybody claims he has a crap ton of losses. So far I have seen five. The sharks, the blue base crossback, the inscriptus, and the snowflake eel. These might have all been due to stupid mistakes but it seems ridiculous to ridicule the guy based on mistakes that people on this forum have probably made. Everybody has losses.

He has lossed rays and others in the past. His oldest fish is 1 years old, yet he has been keeping fish for years, don't think he has had a fish die of old age yet.

Imo he used his 'internet" following to pay for something that he clearly could have afforded, hes stolen ideas from others nothing new there but it is a fact and i have no idea for the motivation of this latest vid but it is is not a true story ino and even if it is what purpose does it serve ? Maybe hes trying to garner more sympathy for his next "donation" build

Gis diy over flow is not new, his uplow algae scrubber is not new. I. Sure there are others but i dont watch his stuff so thats all that comes to mind. The guy should have the decency to atleast give credit to the people that came up with these ideas or atleast not give the impression that hes a genius and came up with this stuff on his own

I guess that doesn't make him a good person, but it doesn't make him a con man either, just a moocher with little ethics or self respect. What does stolen ideas mean? A lot of what he says and does is technically common knowledge, like the airlift, how is that stealing?

Those things do work, but make no sense unless you have one lying around that noone wants.

You have to take everything on YouTube with a grain of salt. As i said before, every YouTuber is first and foremost an entertainer.
