This kind of behavior is becoming more and more common place for the police. Why has it gone from "To protect and serve" to "To oppress the vox populi"? What do you guys think about it? I for one think that the cops need to go to jail for this assault. Because when dirty cops like these harm innocent people it makes all cops look bad and turns them into targets for people's anger.

This is what angers me. Police use pepper spray force to stop innocent peaceful protesters (I am guessing they were, I scanned the article). Because they were college students I also believe what they were saying was at least legitimate for discussion. Then you go and look at these demented protesters we like to call the Westboro Baptist Church. These people picket soldiers funerals and call out the police forces and armed forces because they protect a country that houses ***s. I have not read one story where police have taken aciton on them but yet they are allowed (and protected) to do wtf ever they please. Something is *** backwards in this country.

Sorry for the sidetrack. I just want to show support by giving an example of our backwards policies in America.

Its all good, bro. I hate Frank Phelps and his minions too. Although this will make you happier.

The way I look at it is if the tea party can protest with their guns, these guys at Westboro Baptist Church can express themselves, then these occupy people should be allowed to do the same without fear of abuse from the police. I'm a veteran and I would not silence anyone, even Phelps' followers. Censorship in any form is one step along the slippery slope of tyranny and that goes against the very ideals this country was founded on.

i see no problem with pepper spraying protestors on campus. i'll take pepper spray over pellet guns anyday

Why has it gone from "To protect and serve"

It never was to protect and serve. Police protect and serve the state and the government. Not its citizens.

Or how about no force at all as no force is necessary? They sat across a sidewalk. They disagreed that they needed to move and they get sprayed for it. Nothing points in the direction of force being needed.

As for Phelps... him and his minions can say wtf they like, it is their right to do so. I was basically making an example that one side that is left alone, happens to speak their words fueled with hatred and evilness. The other side gets pepper sprayed because "THEIR" opinion happens to question authority and since cops are in the "authority gang" the words themselves must mean they feel threatened. It is our right to question authority. It is our right to be concious and realize what is wrong with our system of politics. Police brutality against the innocent should never be allowed to be justified. It only opens doors for more corruption.

This UC Davis situation is nothing compared to what happened in Fullerton, CA. Look up the case of Kelly Thomas in Fullerton, July 2011.

It never was to protect and serve. Police protect and serve the state and the government. Not its citizens.

But we exist in the states and people are what make a government so is it not to protect the citizens? Why would a cop ever need to respond to a domestic violence call, it has no affect on "state nor government". They do it because THEY ARE suppose to protect and serve citizens as we ARE the state.

Protect and Serve is the Motto of the LAPD, Police take an Oath to Uphold the LAW. Westboro Protesters, Tea Party Protesters, the Million Marches Etc. all Get Permits, Insurance, Etc and then after their Protest they "LEAVE". Occupy illegally Squat in Violation of many Ordinances. Pepper Spray for all that most people think is Brutal isn't. Civil Disobedience in General terms is a way to Force the Authorities to do something rash, in the 60's Fire Hoses and batons, Now it is CS, Pepper Spray and Pepper Balls. When you decide to Link arms and Sit down in a Circle around the Po po and refuse to move what did they think was going to happen the Police were all going to go on coffee break and sing Kumbaya with them?
