the fight was definitely close (especially looking at it round-by-round), not arguing that, but I don't listen to those two idiots at all (goldberg and rogan). It also says that machida landed more strikes, which going by fightmetric, isn't the case.

"It looks like this is a controversial match with many MMA fans feeling the decision is wrong. The final score for the fight was officially 48-47 for Machida by the CSAC. It went the full 5 rounds (CSAC scoring was 3 rounds for Machida and 2 rounds to Shogun). Usually in these controversial fights, sometimes watching it without the audio may change your mind. Especially if you score it yourself vs listening to Rogan and Goldberg highlight all the punches and kicks of their favorite fighters. Try it and see or just stay mad. It may not change your mind, but I think you will realize the fight was not one sided but actually close.
Update: I just watched the entire fight again and counted actual strikes and kicks landed round by round. Yes, without the sound of annoying Rogan to sway the fight. Machida won this easily. The first 3 rounds he won easily with more strikes and kicks landed. Not only did he win the first 3 rounds, he landed the more effective strikes. Even in rounds 4 & 5 were closer than what I read on the play by play blogs on Sherdog, MMA Weekly, and Bloody Elbow. Those bloggers are wrong! Watch the fight again and score it round by round by actual strikes and kicks landed.

Judges score by punches and kicks landed, as well as take-downs that are successfully executed and not stuffed. Shogun missed many of his kicks. I think the average UFC fan hates the way Machida defends which looks like he is running when he is simply avoiding kicks and punches. I could see Shogun getting frustrated with his missed kicks and his failed attempts for takedowns. If you watch for actual strikes and kicks LANDED by each fighter round by round, then you will likely score it like the judges did."

Effective striking, grappling, aggression, and octagon control?

machida sucked!! shogun should have won!

Machida did'nt suck! Rua just had the right game plan. Lets let the rematch take place and see what happens.

agreed.

machida threw and landed the tough shots.

shogun mostly through kicks to the legs and ribs. He Had machida hurt. but he didn't utilize the injury and try to take him down, or knock him out.

Rua just kept kicking him. i noticed every time rua threw a kick, machida came in with a counter punch or a counter kick

what a great fight! i really think shogun dominated throughout the fight, and was really hurting machida. but with every kick from shogun, machida threw a punch, so i guess thats how he won. if it wasnt a title fight shogun definantly would have won.

cant wait to see shogun fight again!

I'm a fan of both fighters. I've followed both of them since their earlier days in their careers. I personally gave the fight to Shogun over all. I rooted for Machida before the fight though.

But it wasn't that big of a contraversy. I can see the argument that Machida won rounds 1-3 and Shogun definitely won 4-5. I'm not saying I agree, but I'm saying that you have to look at each round seperately and score it without thinking about Joe Rogan's biased commentating and think about the fact that you have to beat the champ to be the champ. Rounds 1-3 was close and I can see the argument that Machida already had 3 rounds in the bag with the 10 point must scoring system

I give Shogun props for being so classy in defeat, he didn't talk trash about Lyoto or the judges. I thought he'd get tko'd if the fight went standing like it did. But that shows his greatness and I was obviously basing my prediction based upon his first two UFC fights. But he reminds me of why I'm a fan of his. His game plan was the best one to have against a guy like Machida and his gas tank is back to the way it used to be.

Let's get over it, we can't change what happened. Can't wait for the rematch! I predicted Machida via tko,............... but after watching the fight, I don't know what will happen if they rematch. Hope UFC inks it!
