How the F did Pellegrino get sub of the night over Palhares?

I thought Mir was going to look a lot better. Should be a great fight when Carwin faces Brock.

Gotta give Hardy huge props for his toughness and resiliency, but his takedown defense was embarrassing. I know GSP's wrestling is awesome, but how can you make it this far with such horrible takedown defense?
A ton of people are upset about palhares not letting go of that sub. Pretty hard leg crank I felt bad

Hardy didn't land a punch its a shame GSP had to drag the fight out. I think he could have let his hands go and gotten a KO or TKO by the second or third round.

I couldn't help but laugh at the Carwin vs Mir fight.
Carwin is ridiculously strong. Another first rounder thats 12! first round wins.
The reason it was so funny to me was because every kept saying that Carwin had a lucky punch on gonzaga blah blah :grinno:

IMO, it was the ref's fault. He was way too far from the action, so it took him too long to get there plus he didn't step in right away. I'm not sure I would have let go, either in the heat of the moment. It was still a much more devastating sub than a common RNC.

I agree , in the heat of the moment someone tapping your leg is gonna go unnoticed. Plus he couldn't actually see it happening he was facing the other way. It really wasn't rousimar's fault he isn't a bad guy at all unfortunately its a risk of the sport. The ref needed to be louder and more physical in the breakup.

I didnt think the Palhares hold was that long... but i guess he has had a history on holding submissons... think that was the reason rogan got on his case... not noticing the tap is a bunch of bs imo... you train to notice your partners reactions...

Georges St-Pierre vs. Dan Hardy - This is just another win for GSP. I don't blame him for the way it looked, because he doesn't pick his opponents. Hardy is all stand-up, so what else would GSP do besides take him down, and beat him up. I like Hardy, and I think he will continue to be a good fighter, but he has to work on his ground game more if he wants to be elite. I look for GSP to take on Kos or Daley next, and, well, win.

Frank Mir vs. Shane Carwin - I still believe that Mir has more "mma talent" than Carwin, or Brock, for that matter. I think his biggest problem is though, when he gets in the ring with these big boys, he thinks he can just shake off these "medium" punches, and continue on fighting. He can do that with Nog, or Kongo, because there is a big drop off from their KO punch, and their "medium" punch, but guys like Carwin and Brock, can shut the lights out with punches like those. This is a problem that I'm not sure Mir can fix, and thats going to be an issue when he gets in the cage with Cain or Dos Santos. Carwin did look pretty good, but now he's going to get Brock, and I can't help but feel like Brock is exactly what Carwin is, but just a little better. Carwin will still have a shot though, because if you find yourself in front of one of those fists, it doesn't really matter how big you are.

Ben Saunders vs. Jon Fitch - This is Jon Fitch. Our table sat watching the pre-game for it, and we talked about how we knew exactly what would happen in this fight, and when it was over, we kind of felt like we didn't need to watch it to know what happened. I don't blame Fitch for this at all, he is a very good fighter, and is unfortunately in the same weight class as GSP. He is a superior wrestler, and nobody has been able to stop him do what he does, except GSP. I wish that him and Kos would fight because I think that would be an unbelievable battle, but I just don't think it will happen. Hopefully, when Alves gets his head figured out, they will line this fight up again, because I still want to see it.

Jim Miller vs. Mark Bocek - Not a lot to say here, but I thought Bocek won.

Nate Diaz vs. Rory Markham - Diaz looked pretty good, being able to stand-up and beat Markham who is a big puncher, but I'm still not sold on him at 170. If he gets in there with any of the multitude of great wrestlers at 170, I don't know how he can hold them off. Maybe a fight with Almeida would be fun, just because they are both so good on the ground.

Ricardo Almeida vs. Matt Brown - Speaking of, Almeida looked great in his 170 debut. He still doesn't have much to offer on his feet, and that may be an issue with the above mentioned hypothetical Diaz fight, but his JJ skills are top notch.

Rousimar Palhares vs. Tomasz Drwal - This was unfortunate because the ref got there late, and Palhares held on too long. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a suspension for Palhares from this, and maybe with the ref too.

it was a good card overall.

here's what i think of the ww div. it's clear to me now after watching gsp beat hardy that there is no one in the ww div that will beat gsp. no one there is going to avoid being handled the way bj, alves, fitch and hardy were handled. imo, gsp has 2 or 3 more fights in the division and should move up to challenge anderson for the 185 title. he should rematch fitch, fight the winner of kos/daley and depending on how well paulo thiago does in his next fight or 2, that's the last fight gsp needs to clean out the division. his only reason to not move up is if he wants to break the record for most title defenses. i think he stands little chance against anderson, but with his wrestling, he could win a decision. the trick is to not get ko'd or subbed for 5 rounds. but although he'll be an underdog, what else is there for a champ to do once you've cleaned out your division? but dang, hardy not tapping,........... that dude is tough, props to him and he was lucky to be in a certain position where he was able to rotate his arm back and forth in the armbar. or else he'd end up like escudero

i'm really excited about the hw division. i didn't want to see mir/lesnar 3. i think both guys don't have what it takes to beat brock. i still think mir is overrated, some were even saying he can beat fedor. and i still need to see more from carwin for me to say he belongs at the top 5 level in the world. but i'm glad he gets his shot, but i'm MOST excited about cain and jds. I hope they dont' end up fighting eachother right now. dana already said that cain is next after carwin to get a title shot and jds will fight one more time. so he will get the shot maybe after cain if he wins. jds vs mir? jds vs kongo? mir vs CC? there's a lot of good potential matchups. if i'm mir, i'd leave the ufc if my contracts up and go fight fedor

the pahleres (ch sp) sub should've been sub of the night but maybe because of the contraversy around it was the reason it wasn't. i felt it was borderline, the only thing is that he has a history of doing that before. it didn't seem terribly bad to me, but i can see why some may think that. he is suspended for 90 days as a penalty for what happened though. i dont' think he'll be fined but haven't heard anything
