Thoughts:
Chuck Liddell vs. Rich Franklin - I really felt bad for Chuck here. He came in, in as good of shape as I've seen him, and he really came out strong. He took it to Rich for a while, and when he got hit, he did a good job of shaking it off. Unfortunately, at this stage of Chuck's career, he cannot survive any punch, that has KO power, or anything near it. The way Chuck has gone down his last few fights, will likely be the evidence he needs to call it quits. He doesn't want to, I don't want him to, but he has to. It's not his heart that has failed him, it's his chin. For Rich, this is a nice win, he didn't look great, but I'm not sure he ever will again. Him fighting with the broken arm is one of those things that sets MMA apart from other sports, well done Rich.
Mirko Cro Cop vs. Pat Barry - Great fight. I thought Barry would win, but I hoped he would lose. Barry, to me, has the look of a guy who could be a title contender....at 205. If he would drop weight, he would immediately become one of, if not the most, dangerous striker, at 205. He has a ton of talent, and really athletic, but is just carrying too much weight. As for Cro Cop, what a great win. I thought he was done early, but he toughed it out, and MMA is a better sport with a winning Cro Cop.
Paulo Thiago vs. Martin Kampmann - This really surprised me. I thought Thiago's power would keep Kampmann away on his feet, and Thiago's BJJ would stop Kampmann from wanting to spend time on the ground. I was totally wrong on both. Kampmann took it to Thiago, in every aspect, and just beat him up. That jab won him the fight. Nice win for Kampmann.
Ben Rothwell vs. Gilbert Yvel - If only this could have been a 2 round fight, with 2 minute rounds. Rothwell does have talent, but is not easy to watch. I don't blame him though for going to the ground, I wouldn't want to stand with Yvel either.
Carlos Condit vs. Rory MacDonald - Great win for Condit. I really think Condit is an elite 170'er, but man he has had some bad luck in his last 2 fights. First, he fought a tough and strong Jake Ellenberger, then MacDonald, who is 20 years old, but does't seem to know it. MacDonald will be fun to watch over the next few years, he fights loose, has good movement, and a good chin too.
Tyson Griffin vs. Evan Dunham - Another surprise for me. I don't remember the last time I saw Griffin get handled like that. Dunham has a nice build for a 155'er, he should get a nice fight after this win.
