UFC 129 - GSP vs. Shields

What the hell happened to "I'm not afraid to go to the ground against Jake Shields" and "I like to beat people at their own game"? I'm glad I didn't pay for that fight. I thought it was going to be so much better. Maybe I should rethink my stance on GSP. How disappointing...I hate all standing fights...unless they only last 20 seconds like the Janitor :D
 
Aldo and Hominick was a good fight. Hominick got that big lump in his forehead (hemotoma?) and continued to fight with the MD's approval. I would give it to Hominick for his heart in trying to win in the last round.
 
shields had to beat gsp to get the belt. Not even close. Boring but easy peezy
 
GSP is not a fighter, peeps should have realized that long time ago. Don't expect him to ever finish a fight like Wandy did, he does not have it in him.
 
Lol, i was laughing at Shields throughout the whole time. Dude didn't even show any heart on trying take downs... And wth? GSP has a weak face, Shields barely touched GSP throughout the whole 5 rds and GSP's left eye gets bruised and cuts >.> Weird hhahaha, i loved the Also & Mark fight. Aldo lookd gassed after round 1 but will still fast and manage to take all rds except the last rd. :O which was awesome. And i gotta give to Machida for doing that awesome front leg kick. The dragons footwork was awesome! Glad to see him win!
 
If you're watching and not paying, not sure why you would complain?

I thought the fights were good, but for a variety of reasons. I also think it exposed GSP as someone who is very susceptible to striking - which would make for a very interesting fight with Silva. Jake Shields has weak striking, but somehow managed to pepper up GSP. I wish GSP appeared to have that same fire when it comes to defending his belt, but he looks like he's in protect mode using that amazing jab to hold off his opponent.

But if you weren't psyched for all the rest of th fights on that card, you're crazy. They were all great, and the gsp fight was good. I dunno what Jake's game plan was though, because not going to the ground was dumb.
 
Worst GSP fight I have ever seen. He barely won. Looks like he just tried to make it through the 5 rounds with out taking any chances. I think he just doesn't want anything like a lucky punch (vs. Serra) or an arm bar in the last seconds of a round (vs. Matt Hughs) to spoil his chances of fighting Silva next. But it sure made for a boring fight.

it was boring i agree, but don't get it wrong. he didn't "barely" win. he won all 5 rounds

the two judges that gave shields 2 rounds should not judge another mma fight ever again

i was disappointed in both guys. shields should've went all out in the 4th and 5th, try for the takedown at all cost or get ko'd trying and gsp should've tried harder for a finish. i was very disappointed in his jab jab overhand right, he was reaching and looked way amaturish. one of if not the worst display of striking he's ever shown. i give him a pass this particular time though kind of because of his eye, he is on medical suspension for 60 days and has to go see a specialist for the eye injury but still, his lack of finishing in his last 8 or so fights is giving him a lot of criticism which i agree with
