I would not put any meds in a puffer's water. No reason to treat IPs externally.
 
I think the reason why puffers almost always come with ip to other fish is that we aren't really able to breed almost any puffer in captivity at this point. So almost all puffers besides dp's are wild caught, and it's really easy for them to get ip in the wild but their immune systems are usually able to keep the ip in check. With the stress of being caught and shipped and stuffed into a tank at the lfs is usually enough to overwhelm the puffer's immune system so when we get them they often have sunken bellys.
 
^ true, and it seems almost every puffer i have owned and come across has the same type of parasite...

How would you treat ip on a salt water puffer like a Stars and Stripes? He's not in my possession yet but I'm thinking ahead.
