well well i went on vacation for 3weeks and my fish babysitter didnt do anything i told her. she over fed my fish and didnt do a single water change. all i asked was one a week. and then she left the light on the entire time! so i have very dirty water with a algae bloom going. im thinking of completely tearing down the tank and stating over. how much of the water should i save? i can keep the filters going so they dont lose there bio-load.

opinions?

i know someone has an opinion!

i would just keep the bio in the filters and tear down the rest and give it all a good clean. i hope you didn't pay her.

How big is the tank?

I would probably just start over.

Change the mech filtration media, rines the bio media in tank water, clean the glass and decorations, and do a big (80 - 90%) water change.

How are the fish?

If the fish are still alive I would simply clean up the fish tank, I would do a 10% water change the first day than a 20% in another day or two, and in a couple of more days another 30% until I get to my regular schedule, I would keep the lights down to kill off the algae. No biggie.

bad thing is my tanks in between to windows one on both ends. the tank doesnt get alot of natural light but it does get some. how long should i just leave the light off?

the algae is really dark like blueish green.

the fish are fine. she over feed them so there is alot of waste but the fish are nice and FAT!.
