I would just clean the algea off.. and do a water change... Like stated earlier..bad thing is my tanks in between to windows one on both ends. the tank doesnt get alot of natural light but it does get some. how long should i just leave the light off?
the algae is really dark like blueish green.
the fish are fine. she over feed them so there is alot of waste but the fish are nice and FAT!.
My question would be why would you ask someone that obviously doesn't know anything about fish to change your water?? I would just tell them how much to feed show them and tell them when..
Unless I paid them.. but still I woudl hold myself responsible for knowing that my fish sitter knows how to do what I want and even do some training.
Other than that I would have to say it was my fault... But i'm no expert..
Most peopel I know that don't even know how to feed the fish , have no clue what a water change is!!

Never completely start over when your fish are still alive.
Simply clean the tank glass and decor of algae, remove waste and uneaten food and shiphon gravel well. Change 30 - 50% of the water, clean mechanical filtration media, and give your biological filtration media a quick rinse to remove any heavy deposits without killing off your bio load. Everything should correct itself quickly following these steps. Bye the way get yourself an inexpensive timer for your lights (Home Depot/Lowe's). Set the lights to be on for about 8 hrs a day give or take, depending on thier feeding schedule and when you are home to enjoy and view your fish.
