I saw a 8-9 inch Florida gar at a LFS today. It was in poor shape with some slight fin rot. It was being housed in a 10 gallon and I was so tempted to buy it. However, I didn't want to make an impulse buy. What are the chances of the it being housed with an almost 10 inch Black Arowana in a 180? Would it be too aggressive for the black arowana? The LFS had it on feeder fish so that's another problem. I really wish it were more around 5 or 6 inches...

I def would not risk putting it in w a black aro under those conditions. In the gar world, floridas are a dime a dozen and the black aro's are harder and harder to come by.

Buy it, quarantine it, train it onto pellets, then it will live with the aro just fine. I have seen it done lots of times. Florida gars are not aggressive to fish they cannot eat so the aro will be fine as long as you quarantine it. I would be more worried about the aro outgrowing it and killing it.

I believe this can happen either way. I have no experience in keeping gars and aros together (although at different times have kept gars and my current black aro) but at the size they are currently, I wouldn't want to see the damage of a bite on that aro.

u dont wanna do it. a florida might be ok, but aro plus gar usually equals a dead animal or at least injured

Florida gars are not aggressive. I highly doubt it would bite the aro.

ya they would be fine together. but the gars health is the issue.
