I do 50% water change about ahh every 5-7 days.. and I pointed the output nozzles more straight up or whatever to get more surface agitation..

"Also, side question.... I got the FX5, and I think I need more media in it.... If I just turn the valves from the input and output to close them, and then attach a hose to the bottom part on the fx5 and drain all that, won't the filter be MOSTLY empty? Allowing me to add more media".. Or you could close valves and just remove the whole thing.

Is the filter brand new? Did you use any soap to clean anything recently? There is an issue the FX5 had but I cannot remember it off hand. I have 2 and never had any issue... Are you running one of those water clarifier things?? I think the issue was with something that would go into one of the media trays.

Brand new, yes.. not even a week on it...

or air could be getting into your filter somehow, spitting out bubbles, happended to me before
